With Friends Like Right-to-Life, Who Needs Enemies?

I have my pro-life credentials.  I've fought in the trenches, so shut-up.

Too many times while in the trenches, Right-to-Life national leaders have been there wiping out our side, handing victory to the pro-aborts.

Today, I lament and pray for and with Rep. John Shaddegg (AZ) who knew that if he could have received just a little bit of Right-to-Life's cooperation, Pelosi's health care bill would have gone down.  Instead, Shaddegg got a Right-to-Life knife in the back.

The battle lost in the House over the government health care takeover rests in large part on the shoulders of the national Right-to-Life leaders.  They are pinheads and they must resign now.

As the political dynamics tightened around the health care vote, liberal pro-aborts had to concede to a vote on the pro-life amendment in order to shave off enough pro-life democrats for victory.  A bitter political pill for their side, but they saw the bigger victory and could spin the pro-life amendment as "just acknowledgement of existing law contained in the long-standing Hyde Amendment." (Hyde Amendment = No federal funds for abortions)

Well, Shaddegg had a plan to throw sand in the gears and likely ruin the political machinery grinding out a victory for the government takeover of health care.  He was rounding up the votes to kill the pro-life amendment (by voting "present") and thereby killing the whole bill and quite possibly the entire effort. This would have caused such a train wreck, it is doubtful the liberals could have recovered, i.e., Waterloo.

But, NO ... as this plan was quietly being put together, Right-to-Life issues a noontime letter on the day of the vote stating a "present" vote will be scored as a NO vote, elevating it as the "most important vote" since the 1997 vote on the Hyde Amendment.

KABOOM!  Right-to-Life once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.  Good for Shaddegg being the lone "present" vote on the amendment.

This screw-up is so historic and monumental that the Right-to-Life leadership must take the honorable actions and resign, immediately.

Shaddegg has a 100% rating from Right-to-Life.  He is not a mystery or a double-dealer.  After all the work he has done on their behalf, a little help would have gone a long way.

Instead, it is clear ... Right-to-Life is more concerned about fundraising by "getting the win" on the pro-life amendment.  How long do you think that amendment will hold as the bill makes its way through Congress?

Go away Right-to-Life leadership.  Your actions are pitiful.

Well, attacking fellow pro-life advocates sure isn't helpful to stopping abortion and ObamaCare. To do this, we need unity, not division and these scathing attacks.

First, National Right to Life isn't the only pro-life group to support Stupak. They all did. Why are singling out Right to Life when FRC, AUL, CWA, SBA, Focus on the Family, ACLJ, Students for Life, CMA, USCCB FFL, DFLA, etc. all supported Stupak? Dont forget that EVERY pro-life member of Congress except Shadegg voted for Stupak. if the strategy of voting present was so sound, why did no one else join him?

Why attack NRLC when the ENTIRE pro-life movement had pressed for weeks and weeks to get a vote to stop massive abortion funding? We get a vote and now we're supposed to flip-flop and align ourselves with Planned Parenthood and support keeping massive abortion funding in the bill?

And there is no guarantee that the bill would have failed without Stupak. In fact, the vote count *before Stupak was adopted* and leading right up to the vote showed that we were a few votes short of defeating it. That was without Stupak.

So the choices were have a bill pass that funds 500K abortions or have one pass that doesn't. Everyone but Shadegg chose the latter.

Stopping taxpayer funding of perhaps half a million abortions is always a victory. Passage of the health care bill is not a victory and no pro-life group is celebrating that.

But, this is just one battle. This PelosiCare bill will never pass in the Senate and the Senate is likely to kill a bill as well.

Don't depair, the battle is just beginning. But as it moves ahead, attacking pro-life groups and people is not helpful.

Wrong again, Mr./Ms. Anonymous. The very FACT that the Stupak amendment was ALLOWED to come to the House Floor was because without it's passage, THE BILL WOULD FAIL!

Right-to-Life's noon time letter crushed the best opportunity to kill the bill.

You claim the bill would have passed even without Stupak. Again, the FACTS belie your bogus claim.

Do you really believe Pelosi, et. al. would have allowed Stupak if they didn't need it. Give me a break.

Right to Life leaders are idiots and should resign so the cause can actually make better progress.

Dear Anonymous,
The pro-life movement is the most failed movement in the history of movements. In 40 years we have achieved next to nothing, in fact, we have only seen the entrenching of abortion in our society. Our leaders no longer fight for the children conceived of rape, and incest. In order to stay relevant, pro-lifers have lowered their standards to such depths that it is hard to make them out.

The major pro-life groups you mentioned are not the pro-life movement. The pro-life movement is not willing to wait for three or four generations to abolish abortion. The pro-life movement does not think that the Stupak amendment that is called pro-life, but explicitly allows the tax payer funding of abortions for rape, incest, and life of the mother is a good thing.
Look and see how much money the people who head up those honorable "pro-life" organizations make, seriously, look it up on guidestar. They all make six figures that comes from moms and pops making much less. They all say they want to abolish abortion in their mailings and mission statements, but they don't have the guts to ever act in a principled manner to accomplish what their words indicate. The status quo is very comfy for most of them.

I say make these guys all unpaid volunteers and lets see how many of them stick around. I would be willing to bet, not many.

Also, please don't remind us that attacking pro-life groups is not helpful because these "pro-life" groups do it all the time. If you doubt it, please check how Clarke Forsythe, AUL, and the Florida Catholic Conference (and the USCCB) have squashed Personhood Amendments in different states.

We need to throw the bums in Congress out, and the bums in charge of 99% of these pro-life organizations as well.
